Day 1 - Rendezvous on Cluj-Napoca International Airport
Transfer to our lodge tucked away in the beautiful Sunset Mountains, the western part of the Carpathian Arch. After refreshments and a short rest we'll have an introduction of the upcoming journey and we'll start on foot to discover this magic lands of the mountain people called "Moti", that for centuries perfected their way of living in harmony with the surrounding nature.

Day 2 - Apuseni "Sunset" Mountains karstic system
Will set forth to explore the lovely scenery of these mountains, one of the biggest karstic systems of Europe, while visiting some of the most beautiful caves, hiding splendid treasures as glaciers, underground waterfalls, an impressive display of stalactites and stalagmites. A traditional homestead will welcome us for a hearty lunch and ancient legends. Following the finest mountain trails through enchanting lush forests we'll arrive back to our lodge just in time for dinner.

Day 3 - Sunset Mountains to Maramures
Time to get back on the move again, we will leave behind Arieseni and continue through the Sunset Mountains, visiting two of the most impressive caves in Romania: The Bear Cave and Meziad Cave. After a lovely picnic and with our imagination still running wild, we will then proceed towards the heart of Maramures. There, in an idyllic village, spread between orchards, at the foothills of the Northern Carpathian Mountains, our new hosts will be waiting for us at a charming traditional wooden house. The village of Breb will be our home to discover a wealth of traditions and the world famous hospitality of the locals.

Day 4 - The wooden churches
Its well preserved wooden houses and churches, its traditional lifestyle and the local colourful dresses still in use, make of Maramures a unique living museum in Europe, an impressive expression of vernacular architecture of the Carpathians, standing since before 17th century. Exploring the region in more depth we will visit five monastery complexes set in incredibly delightful scenery. Upon our return home, our hosts will take us on a journey through their wonderful village and into their remarkable way of life.

Day 5 - Maramures to Bucovina
We say goodbye to our hosts and continue driving towards the heart of Bucovina, crossing the mountains and through majestic valleys we will stop for lunch and cheese tasting at a traditional sheepfold in the pretty village of Ciocanesti. We then continue towards Vatra Dornei, well known for centuries as a spa resort due to its many mineral water springs found in the area. The hospitality of the people living here and their traditions will enchant our senses well beyond expectations. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the spa and reinvigorate yourself with a welcoming massage.

Day 6 - Calimani Mountains
After a nourishing breakfast a local guide and expert will take us on a magical journey into Calimani Mountains, the largest volcanic complex of the Carpathian Arch and the youngest mountains in Romania. We will be hiking through​ several protected ecosystems of mixed forests and alpine meadows until we reach the Geological Reserve 12 Apostles. A well deserved picnic lunch and local legends will delight us while surreal views will sooth our efforts. Upon our return the local custodians will delight us with a traditional meal cooked over a bonfire.

Day 7 - The Painted Monasteries
We will set off through the Northern Moldavia to be mesmerized by the painted monasteries, built starting with the 14th century, now part of Unesco Heritage, recorded as "great monuments of the world"(whc.unesco.org). They are unique in the world through their architecture that characterizes the golden age of Moldavia and through their exterior and interior paintings. After discovering and experiencing a fascinating corner of the country along with its incredible history we will proceed towards "The Valley of the 12" a fairytale like place that will be our home for just one night.

Day 8 - Bicaz Gorge and Hasmas Mountains
A full day of unique experiences ahead of us. Following Bicaz Gorge, a natural passageway ​between Moldavia and Transylvania, one of the most spectacular drives in the country, we will hike to a magical mountain top known as "The Fairies Garden", the perfect place to enjoy a picnic with breathtaking views of the dramatic landscape around us. We then continue with a local ranger that will take us deep in the ancient forest to quietly observe the brown bear in its natural habitat. Our home for the night will be in Corund village, one of the most important ceramic centres in Europe.

Day 9 - The Salt Road
Before we take on the Salt Road we will explore this charming village and its centuries old traditions and customs. We continue our journey towards Praid Salt mine, visiting its underground galleries and the natural Salt Mountain reserve found nearby. The exploration goes on taking us to Cetatea de Balta, a medieval castle and also the Jidvei cellars, for a welcoming wine tasting experience. Our home for the last night will be the Haller Castle in Ogra, beautifully restored to reflect the elegancy of old times.

Day 10 - Farewell
Following a leisurely breakfast it's time to head to Cluj-Napoca International Airport for your departure.
After you have learned the spell of whispering to the mountains and taming nature at your will, while through your own living The Northern Mysteries helping us to keep it alive, we are favouring you to carry this precious magic with you everywhere you are.
